Halfdan I of Ostlandet

Halfdan I "Whiteshanks" of Ostlandet (705-755) was the king of Ostlandet until 755, succeeding Olof Tratalja and preceding Eystein I of Ostlandet.

Biography[]

Halfdan was born in 705, and was the son of Olof Tratalja of the House of Yngling. The Swedish settlers in Varmland sacrificed his father to the god Odin during a famine, but when some realized that the famine was caused by overpopulation and not by dereliction of religious duties, they made Halfdan the king of Ostlandet. Halfdan subjugated Soleyar and also conquered much of southern Norway for his kingdom, and he was succeeded by Eystein I of Ostlandet.
