Halewyn the Druid was a Celtic pagan druid who lived in rural eastern Gloucestershire during the late 9th century AD. Halewyn lived a hermetic lifestyle at a lakeside cabin, where he set up several strawmen and dedicated his life to communicating with the spirits. In October of 876 AD, he sold a pouch of sedative herbs to the brigand Gwilim from Cudd Lladron, but, when the Viking warrior Eivor came to Halewyn's house dressed as the Mari Llwyn spirit and proved his "spirituality" by igniting Halewyn's strawmen with fire arrows and by answering each question in Halewyn's quiz on charms correctly. Halewyn then told the Mari Llwyd that he had given the pouch to a man from Cudd Lladron, allowing for Eivor to head to Thieves' Warren and unearth the conspiracy to frame him for Tewdwr's apparent murder.
