Halab was an Amorite city-state that existed in present-day Aleppo, Syria during the Late Bronze Age. Halab was founded in 5000 BC, and the main temple to the storm god Hadad was built on the citadel hill in the center of the city. Halab served as the capital of the Amorite kingdom of Yamhad from 1800 to 1525 BC, but the Hittites under Mursili I devastated the kingdom. Halab came under Hittite rule and became the center of worship of the storm god Teshub. In the mid-12th century BC, the Assyrians conquered Halab from its neo-Hittite rulers.
