Hala Ayala

Hala Ayala (1973-) was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates (D-51) from 10 January 2018 to 12 January 2022, succeeding Rich Anderson and preceding Briana Sewell.

Biography[]

Hala Ayala was born in Alexandria, Virginia in 1973, the daughter of a Salvadoran immigrant father and his Irish and Lebanese-American wife. She worked for the Department of Homeland Security as a cybersecurity specialist before campaigning for Barack Obama in 2012 and participating in the "Women's March" protest against Donald Trump in 2017. Ayala went on to serve in the House of Delegates from 2018 to 2022, and she retired in order to run for Lieutenant Governor in 2021. She was defeated by the Republican Winsome Sears by a margin of 50.7% to 49.2%.
