Hagar

Hagar was the Egyptian handmaid of Sarah and the mistress of Abraham. The barren Sarah arranged for Hagar to bear Abraham a child, but she mistreated the pregnant Hagar after Hagar gave her a contemptuous look following the conception of Ishmael. Hagar ran away, but she was convinced to return home by an angel. After Sarah gave birth to Isaac through divine intervention, Sarah again entered into a rivalry with Hagar, as she wanted for her own son to inherit Abraham's goods. She banished Hagar and Ishmael, and they were welcomed back after fourteen years, being given bread and water before settling in the Desert of Paran. In Islam, Hagar is said to have founded the city of Mecca.
