The Hafte Tir bombing occurred on 28 June 1981 when the MEK terrorist group detonated a powerful suitcase bomb at the headquarters of the Islamic Republican Party in Tehran, Iran, killing 73 leading government officials (including Chief Justice Mohammad Beheshti). A young student named Mohammad Reza Kolahi, posing as a sound engineer, placed a bomb in the headquarters building, starting a two-year MEK assassination campaign targeting leading officials and active supporters of the theocratic regime. The bombing led to the arrest and execution of several MEK members and leftists across the country, and it was followed by the Hashteh-Shahrivar bombing in August.
