Hafiz Saeed Khan

Hafiz Saeed Khan (1972-26 July 2016), also known as Mullah Saeed Orakzai, was the Emir of the Islamic State's Wilayat Khorasan province and a former Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan warlord.

Biography[]

Hafiz Saeed Khan was born in Pakistan in 1972, and he joined the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan militant group during the insurgency against the government. In October 2014, he swore allegiance to the Islamic State and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi appointed him as the emir of the Wilayat Khorasan province, which encompassed Pakistan and Afghanistan. Under his watch, the Islamic State took over several areas of Nangarhar Province and carried out some terrorist attacks in both Pakistan and Afghanistan, feeding off of the defections of several fellow former TTP fighters to the new self-declared caliphate. On 11 July 2015, it was reported by the Afghan government that he was killed in a drone strike in Nangarhar, but US officials said that they had no firm proof of his death. On 26 July 2016, he was killed in a US airstrike on Achin in Nangarhar Province.
