The HMS Interceptor was a 16-gun British Royal Navy brig. The ship was purported to be the fastest vessel in King George II's service, and it was commanded by Commodore James Norrington during the Golden Age of Piracy; Norrington captained the Interceptor while hunting down the Caribbean's fiercest pirates in the 1720s. In 1728, the pirate Jack Sparrow and his associate Will Turner commandeered the ship with the objective of rescuing Elizabeth Swann from the crew of the Black Pearl, and Sparrow sailed from Port Royal to Tortuga, where he recruited a motley crew and promised the ship to Anamaria Aranas in exchange for her help, and in recompense for the loss of her dinghy, the Jolly Mon. However, the Interceptor was destroyed in battle with the Black Pearl and its surviving crew members taken prisoner.
