HMS Devastation vs. Conde de Tolosa was a naval battle fought between the Royal Navy brig HMS Devastation and the Spanish Navy frigate Conde de Tolosa off the northern coast of Jamaica in 1722 during the Anglo-Spanish War. The battle began as a usual skirmish between a Spanish warship and a British ship in the disputed territorial waters in the 100 miles between Cuba in the north and Jamaica in the south, with the Conde de Tolosa outgunning the smaller HMS Devastation. The pirate captain Edward Kenway decided to take advantage of the battle to plunder the Conde de Tolosa's 105 cords of wood and 15 bags of sugar, and his ship helped to immobilize the Conde de Tolosa before his crew boarded the Spanish ship, killed its captain, and forced its crew to surrender. Intending to reduce his wanted level, Kenway released his prisoners.
