Guy XVI de Laval (1 October 1476-20 May 1531) was Count of Laval from 1501 to 1531, succeeding Guy XV de Laval and preceding Guy XVII de Laval. He was married to Charlotte of Aragon.
Biography[]
Guy XVI de Laval was the son of Jean de Laval and Jeanne du Perrier, and his birth name was "Nicolas". He became close friends with Anne of Brittany, and he followed her to the royal court after her marriage to King Charles VIII of France. In 1500, Guy de Laval married Princess Charlotte of Aragon, a Neapolitan princess, having previously fought over her with Cesare Borgia; Borgia broke Laval's arm when he taunted him before a cancelled bullfighting match between the two. In 1517, he became a Lieutenant General, followed by a promotion to General in 1525 and Admiral of Brittany, where most of his lands were. He frequently corresponded with his brother-in-law Anne de Montmorency to gain insight and favors at the royal court. Guy died in 1531.
