Guy I of Spoleto (816-860) was Duke of Spoleto from 842 to 860, succeeding Berengar of Spoleto and preceding Lambert I of Spoleto.
Biography[]
Guy was born in 816 to the House of Guideschi, a dynasty of Catholic French. Guy was the son of Lambert I of Nantes, and he was the grandson of Pepin of Italy through his mother. In 840, he was granted the abbey of Mettlach in Lotharingia after Louis the Pious died, and he married the daughter of Sico of Benevento. In 842, he became Duke of Spoleto in Italy and aided his brother-in-law Siconulf of Salerno in the Beneventan civil war, and in 846 he drove the Saracens out of Latium after they raided Rome and sacked St. Peter's Basilica. In 858, Guy helped Adhemar of Salerno against Lando I of Capua and secured the Liri Valley from the County of Capua. He died in 860, and Lambert I of Spoleto succeeded him.
