Gundulf (497-) was a statesman of the Ostrogothic Kingdom during the 6th century AD.
Biography[]
Gundulf was born in 497 to a family of Goths, and he served the Byzantine Empire as a mercenary; he was originally one of Belisarius' bodyguards. When Belisarius departed Italy in early 549, Gundulf remained behind and defected to the Ostrogoths, and he was sent by Totila to campaign in Dalmatia. He was successful in Dalmatia before returning to Italy to besiege Ancona in 551, and he was defeated at the naval Battle of Sena Gallica and then at the Battle of Mons Lactarius.
