Guillermo Rodriguez Lara

Guillermo "Bombita" Rodriguez Lara (4 November 1923-) was President of Ecuador from 15 February 1972 to 11 January 1976, succeeding Jose Maria Velasco Ibarra and preceding Alfredo Poveda.

Biography[]

Guillermo Rodriguez Lara was born in Pujili, Ecuador in 1923, and he rose through the ranks of the Ecuadorian Army before deposing President Jose Maria Velasco Ibarra in "El Carnavalazo" in 1972. He oversaw the drilling of the country's oil reserves to fund hospitals, schools, roads, and new equipment for the army. The military ousted him from power in 1976.
