Guild socialism was a short-lived but influential British labor movement that was founded in 1906 by Samuel Hobson. It called for revolutionary change in the organization of British industry through giving workers, organized in monopolistic guilds authorized by the state, control of industry. After World War I it established a National Guild League, which split when many members joined the newly formed Communist Party of Great Britain. Ideological differences followed and the movement had come to an end by 1923.
