The Guideschi were a Frankish family descended from Guy of Nantes, a noble from Austrasia. The family was aggressive in its ambition, always fighting against the Pope and siding with the Holy Roman Empire in the wars in Italy. Guy I of Spoleto was enfeoffed in Spoleto in 842 by Louis the Pious, and his descendants ruled Spoleto until 897, when the Supponidi clan deposed the Guideschi.
