Gudrodr Rognvaldsson

Gudrodr Rognvaldsson (1186-1231), also known as Gudrodr Dond, was the son of Rognvaldr Gudrodarson.

Biography[]

Gudrodr Rognvaldsson was born on the Isle of Man in 1186, the son of Rognvaldr Gudrodarson and the nephew of Olaf the Black. After his uncle - his father's rival - made an advantageous marriage with the Scottish nobility in 1223, Gudrodr attacked Olaf in the outer Hebrides and forced him to flee to Ross, but Olaf then defeated Gudrodr at Skye and had Gudrodr blinded and castrated. In 1230, Gudrodr was named King of the Hebrides by his supporters, but, after the Norwegians vacated the isles in 1231, Gudrodr and Pall Balkason were killed.
