Gudrod the Hunter

Gudrod the Hunter (805-865) was King of Viken from 833 to 865, succeeding Halfdan the Mild and preceding Halfdan the Black. He was also head of the House of Yngling from 833 to 865, succeeidng Halfdan and preceding Olaf Geirstad-Alf.

Biography[]

Gudrod Veidekonge was the son of Halfdan the Mild and was a member of the House of Yngling, and he succeeded his father as King of Viken in 833. He reigned as a king in Vestfold and abducted the King of Agder's daughter, and he had two children from his two marriages: Olaf Geirstad-Alf and Halfdan the Black. In 865, he was speared to death by his abducted wife Asa's page-boy while drunk from a feast.
