The Guardians of the Cedars is a far-right Christian militia in Lebanon formed in April 1975 by Etienne Saqr during the Lebanese Civil War. It was allied to the Israel Defense Forces and the South Lebanon Army and fought against the Lebanese National Movement, Palestine Liberation Organization, Hezbollah, Jammoul, and Syria. It originated with 1,000 fighters, but it grew to 6,000 fighters, and it ceased to be a militia in 1990; it was re-created in 2000 to protest against Syrian influence in Lebanon, and it joined the March 14 Alliance in politics.
