The Guadalajara safehouse bombing occurred in early 1989 when the Tijuana Cartel - responding to the attempted murder of its leaders Benjamin and Ramon Arellano Felix - attempted to assassinate Sinaloa Cartel leaders Joaquin Guzman Loera and Hector Luis Palma Salazar at their safehouse in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico with a car bomb. The two leaders were planning to raid two Tijuana warehouses close to Otay, and Palma noticed the approach of a suspicious orange Volkswagen. A car bomb then exploded, killing the guards who inspected the car; the Sinaloa leaders were unharmed, and they carried out the Otay warehouse raid not long after.
