Guadalajara Cartel

The Guadalajara Cartel was a Mexican drug cartel that was active from 1980 to 1989, based out of Guadalajara, Jalisco. The cartel was founded by Miguel Angel Felix Gallardo, Rafael Caro Quintero, and Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo after their takeover of Guadalajara from Hernin and Hernan Naranjo, and the cartel shipped heroin and marijuana into the United States during the 1980s. The cartel was allied with the Tijuana Cartel, the Medellin Cartel, and the Cali Cartel, while it was rivals with the Gulf Cartel. In 1989, the imprisoned Felix negotiated a deal with the Mexican government in which the cartel's territories were divided among his lieutenants; this deal created the Sinaloa Cartel, the Juarez Cartel, the Tijuana Cartel, the Sonora Cartel, and the Gulf Cartel.
