Gregorio Aráoz de Lamadrid

Gregorio Aráoz de Lamadrid (28 November 1795-5 January 1857) was an Argentine general who fought in the Argentine War of Independence.

Biography[]

Gregorio Aráoz de Lamadrid was born in San Miguel de Tucuman, Viceroyalty of the Rio de la Plata in 1795. He fought beside Generals Manuel Belgrano and José de San Martín during the Argentine War of Independence as a prominent cavalry commander of the Army of the North, winning a number of small actions in Upper Peru. During the Argentine Civil Wars, Aráoz de Lamadrid fought for the Unitarios alongside Jose Maria Paz. He died in 1857.
