Greg Abbott

Greg Abbott (13 November 1957-) was Governor of Texas (R) from 20 January 2015, succeeding Rick Perry.

Biography[]

Greg Abbott was born in Wichita Falls, Texas in 1957. He served as a state trial judge before serving on the Texas Supreme Court from 1996 to 2001. From 2002 to 2015, he served as Attorney General of Texas, the first Republican to hold the position since Reconstruction. In 2005, he successfully advocated for his state's right to display the Ten Commandments in front of the Texas State Capitol in Austin. In 2014, he was elected Governor, the first wheelchair-bound governor since George Wallace. He won re-election in 2018.
