The Green Party of the United States (GPUS) is a green and eco-socialist political party in the United States, founded in 1990. The party first rose to prominence in 2000, when Ralph Nader and Winona LaDuke ran for president and vice-president, respectively, winning the 2.7% of the popular vote that may have helped Al Gore and the US Democratic Party defeat George W. Bush had the Greens not run. In 2016, Jill Stein served as the party's presidential nominee, and the party sought to take advantage of disenfranchised Bernie Sanders supporters by offering Sanders their nomination in April 2016 and by attracting his like-minded supporters to their party. The party gained just 1% of the popular vote in 2016, and it held just 100 local elected offices.
