Greek Army

The Greek Army, formally known as the Hellenic Army, is the land force of the military of Greece, founded in April 1822 during the Greek War of Independence. The Greek army was led and trained by European officers during the war, and the army became one of the most modern armies in Eastern Europe. The Greek army would see action in the wars with the Ottoman Empire in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, World War I, the Russian Civil War, Turkish War of Independence, World War II, Greek Civil War, Korean War, Turkish invasion of Cyprus, Gulf War, and Afghanistan War. In 2016, there were 90,000 personnel in the army.
