Graves L. Hargis

Graves L. Hargis was the Republican election clerk in Munsons Corner, Cortland County, New York. In November 1862, he initially refused to accept the Irish immigrant Timothy Joseph Hurley's Democratic election ticket after reviewing his naturalization papers, which he claimed were invalid. He was ultimately pushed aside by another clerk after Hurley and Abner Beech fought off three nativist thugs, and the other clerk accepted Hurley's vote.
