The Grand Duchy of Posen was a duchy of the kingdom of Prussia and the German Empire that existed from 1815 to 1848, when it became the Province of Posen. Posen was a German state in Poland, based at Posen (Poznan), until it became an official province of Prussia in 1848 and ceased to be a duchy.
