The Good Friday Agreement occurred on 10 April 1998 when the leaders of the Provisional IRA and government officials of the United Kingdom met in Belfast, Northern Ireland to sign a peace treaty to end "The Troubles". The event led to the IRA disarming and the British giving more representation to Irish republican parties in the Northern Irish Assembly at Stormond in a power-sharing government. The agreement brought an end to the main IRA campaign against Britain, although some dissidents would continue the fight on a small scale.
