
Goncalo Mendes de Sousa (1120-1190) was a 12th-century Portuguese nobleman.
Biography[]
Goncalo Mendes de Sousa was born in 1120 to a family of Portuguese nobility, and he married the granddaughter of Henry of Burgundy, who was both Count of Portugal and the father of Afonso Henriques. He fought alongside King Afonso at the 1139 Battle of Ourique and later served as the governor of Lamego Castle.
