Goito Velasquez (1754-1796) was a Spanish Army colonel who commanded the garrison of Fort de Chartres, Spanish Louisiana during the late 18th century. In 1796, he led the garrison of the fort into the present-day Missouri Bootheel and defeated two raiding Sioux Indian war parties before turning north to march back to Fort de Chartres. Along the way, his column was ambushed and massacred by the Cherokee at the Battle of Sikeston along the Mississippi River.
