Gofraid mac Amlaib meic Ragnaill

Gofraid mac Amlaib meic Ragnaill (1004-1074) was Count of Mann from 1066 to 1074 (succeeding Camman mac Amlaib and preceding Comgal of Carrick) and King of Dyflin from 1072 to 1074 (succeeding Toirdelbach Ua Briain and preceding Domnall mac Murchada).

Biography[]

Gofraid mac Amlaib meic Ragnaill was born in 1004, the son of Sihtric mac Gluniairn and the grandson of King Gluniairn of Dyflin. He belonged to the Norse-Gaelic Ui Imair dynasty, and he became Count of Mann in 1066. In 1072, he claimed the kingship of Dublin, and King Toirdelbach Ua Briain handed over the throne to him. He had little independence from his overlord, Ua Briain, and, in 1074, Toirdelbach drove him back to Sudreyjar, where he died within the year. He fathered Fingal mac Gofraid, a claimant to the throne of Sudreyjar.
