Gloria La Riva

Gloria La Riva (13 August 1954-) was a Party for Socialism and Liberation candidate for President of the United States in 2016.

Biography[]

Gloria La Riva was born on 13 August 1954 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States. She graduated from Brandeis University before running for President of the United States in 1992 with the Workers World Party, and in 2004 she joined the Party for Socialism and Liberation after it split from the WWP. La Riva has communist political views, translating some of Fidel Castro's works into English and leading anti-Iraq War protests. She also took part in several attempts to gain a political post, trying to become Mayor of San Francisco, become a Congresswoman, or run for President, and in July 2015 she announced that she was again running for President with Eugene Puryear as her running mate. Because the PSL was a third party and not very well-known, PSL members had to get 300 signatures on petitions in order to have La Riva and Puryer on each state's ballot for president.
