Glassell Park is a neighborhood of northeast Los Angeles, California. Glassell Park was settled by attorney Andrew Glassell and his family during the 1870s, and the area was annexed by Los Angeles between 1912 and 1916. The arrival of the Mexican-American "Avenidas" set of the Mexican Mafia in the final decades of the 20th century contributed to the area's rising gang activity, and the police launched major raids against the gang in 2008 and 2009 and replaced their demolished stronghold with a community garden. In 2008, Glassell Park had a population of 24,815.
