The 84th "Givati" Brigade is an IDF infantry brigade that was formed in 1947. The brigade was commanded by Shimon Avidan during the First Arab-Israeli War, during which it fought in central Israel and captured and depopulated Palestinian villages. The brigade later fought in the First Intifada, Second Intifada, Second Lebanon War, and the wars with Gaza; the brigade was stationed in the Gaza Strip until Israel's 2005 withdrawal from the strip.
