Giuseppe La Masa (30 November 1819 – 29 March 1881) was an Italian patriot and Historical Left politician.
Biography[]
Giuseppe La Masa was born in Trabia, Sicily, Two Sicilies in 1819, and he authored many tragedies before being exiled in 1844 for his nationalist activism. He and Rosolino Pilo co-led the Palermitan insurrection during the Sicilian Revolution of 1848, and he was among the leaders of the liberal regime which governed Sicily until May 1849. He fled to Tuscany on the revolt's failure, and he commanded the Redshirts' Sicula brigade under Giuseppe Garibaldi during the Expedition of the Thousand. However, he was replaced by Giovanni Corrao in October 1860 and became a Major-General in the Italian Royal Army and a Historical Left deputy. He remained in Parliament until 1870, and he died in 1881.
