Giovanni de Vesci

Giovanni de Vesci (1114-1140) was a spy of the Republic of Venice.

Biography[]

Vesci was trained as a spy and was a quiet observer, working for the Republic of Venice from 1140. Vesci was required to spy on the Papal States in the Vatican City section of Rome, and was sent from Florence to infiltrate Rome and find out about the defenses and details about the city.

Vesci was taken to the walls on a carriage of goods, wrapped up in a blanket in the back. Papal captain Mario de Cremona searched the goods, and was about to leave when he heard fidgeting. He turned around and saw the blanket shaking, so he stabbed it with his halberd, killing Vesci.
