A Gio girl
The Gio are an ethnic group in Liberia and the Cote d'Ivoire with a population of 350,000. The Gio originated in western Sudan, Mali, and Guinea before moving to northern Cote d'Ivoire by 1300 and, by the 1900s administrative controls had been placed upon the Gio by the Liberian government. Today, most Gio are animists, believing in the supreme god Zlan.
