Gino Paoli (23 September 1934-) was an Italian singer-songwriter and an Italian Communist Party member of the Chamber of Deputies from 1987 to 1992. Born in Monfalcone, near Trieste, he moved to Genoa at a young age and became a singer-songwriter during the 1950s, writing the love song "Il cielo in una stanza" in 1959 and singing it himself in 1960, after the song was popularized by the rock diva Mina that same year. Paoli continued to produce successful albums into the 1960s and 1970s, and he served as a PCI deputy from 1987 to 1992, when he abandoned politics to focus on his music career. In 2016, he was acquitted of tax evasion, having been accused of bringing €2 million in undeclared income to a Swiss bank.
