Gil Cedillo

Gilbert Anthony Cedillo (25 March 1954-) was a Democratic politician who served in the California State Assembly from 1998 to 2002 and from 2010 to 2012, in the State Senate from 2002 to 2010, and on the Los Angeles City Council from 2013.

Biography[]

Gilbert Anthony Cedillo was born in Barstow, California in 1954, and he was raised in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles. He was involved in Chicano activism as a young man, and he worked as a union general manager from 1990 to 1996. Cedillo went on to serve in the state legislature from 1998 to 2010 and on the City Council from 2013, and he mounted a failed bid for the US House of Representatives in 2009. In October 2022, he faced calls to resign after a recording of him and fellow councilmembers Nury Martinez and Kevin de Leon.
