
Gheorghe Avramescu (26 January 1888-3 March 1945) was a Lieutenant-General of Romania during World War II.
Biography[]
Gheorghe Avramescu was born on 26 January 1888 in Botosani, Romania. He served in the Second Balkan War and World War I, and he took part in the defense of the capital of Bucharest from the German Empire and other engagements. Avramescu became a Brigadier-General in 1935 and a Major-General in 1940, and he led the mountain corps during World War II on the Eastern Front with the Soviet Union. Avramescu fought in Crimea and in his home country during 1944, and he was arrested by the Soviets as pro-Nazi Germany. Avramescu was killed in an air attack on his car, allegedly with only one bullet being fired from the plane, the bullet that happened to kill him; it is possible that he was executed instead.
