Germans are a Germanic people native to Central Europe that make up the majority of the populations of Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, and Luxembourg, with historical minority groups in the Alsace-Lorraine region of France, the Sudetenland region of the Czech Republic, the Pomerania and Silesia regions of Poland, the East Prussia region of Russia (formally called "Kaliningrad Oblast"), and the Jutland region of Denmark. There are 150,000,000 Germans worldwide, with a plurality of Americans identifying as "German-Americans"; they are also located in other regions such as South America, Canada, Russia, and Kazakhstan. Protestantism is the dominant religion in northern Germany and parts of Bavaria, while Catholicism is strong along the Rhine and in southern Germany.
