Germania Inferior

Germania Inferior was a Roman province which existed from 83 to 475 AD, located on the west bank of the Rhine and bordering the North Sea; Vesonto served as its capital. The region was conquered in 57 Bcby Julius Caesar during his Gallic Wars, with the Romans conquering the Eburones and founding settlements after 50 BC. It was initially a part of Gallia Belgica, but it became its own province in 83 AD, with Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippiensium (Cologne) serving as its capital. It lay north of Germania Superior, and, after the fall of the Roman Empire, Germania Inferior became the core of Francia.
