German Resistance

The German Resistance was a loose collection of small and isolated anti-Nazi resistance cells that fought against Nazi Germany from 1933 to 1945. The Resistance was not as coordinated as resistance movements in occupied Europe, and it did not carry out guerrilla warfare; instead, the group carried out individual attacks on Nazis (including the Operation Valkyrie bomb plot against Adolf Hitler) and waged a war of sabotage against the government. The Resistance also attempted to convince Wehrmacht officers to stage a coup against the Nazi Party and the SS, but this failed. After the failure of the 20 July 1944 attempted assassination of Hitler, the German Resistance was hunted down by the German government, and 7,000 of the resistance members were arrested. From 1933 to 1945, approximately 77,000 Germans were killed for opposing the Nazi regime, with tens of thousands more spending time in concentration camps due to their opposition to the fascist regime.
