The German National People's Party (DNVP) was a national conservative political party in Weimar Republic-era Germany which existed from 1918 to 1933. The party consisted of supporters of German nationalism, reactionary monarchism, anti-Semitism, and ethnic nationalism, and it backed the German national hero Paul von Hindenburg in the 1925 presidential election. In the mid-1920s, the DNVP moderated its views to have electability, and the party lost seats to the Nazi Party in the late 1920s and early 1930s. After 1929, the DNVP allied with the Nazis, and the party supported Hitler's rise to power. However, it dissolved in 1933 as Germany moved towards becoming a one-party state. Future Nazis Hans Lammers, Friedrich Jeckeln, Erwin Bumke, Julius Lippert, Dietrich Klagges, Paul Giesler, Richard Kunze, Kurt Blome, Herbert von Dirksen, Ludwig Münchmeyer, Erich Neumann, Friedrich Hildebrandt, Otto Christian Archibald von Bismarck, Leonardo Conti, Karl von Eberstein, Albert Brackmann, Walter Buch, Horst Wessel, and Wilhelm Kube were all originally DNVP members.
