The German Democratic Party (DDP) was a liberal party in the German Weimar Republic that existed from 1918 to 1930. The party was founded as an amalgamation of the Progressive People's Party and the left wing of the National Liberal Party, and, while the DDP was a social liberal party, conservative-liberals founded the German People's Party. The party had the goal of maintaining a democratic republican form of government in Germany, and the party advocated nationalism as well as international cooperation and the protection of ethnic and religious minorities (especially German Jews). The German State Party would replace the Democratic Party in 1930. After World War II, most former DDP and German People's Party members joined the Free Democratic Party, while other DDP members joined the CDU.
