Gerald FitzMaurice, 1st Lord of Offaly

Gerald FitzMaurice, 1st Lord of Offaly (1150-15 January 1204) was Lord of Offaly from 1193 to 1204, preceding Maurice FitzGerald, 2nd Lord of Offaly.

Biography[]

Gerald FitzMaurice was born in Wales in 1150, the son of Maurice FitzGerald, Lord of Lanstephan and his second wife. Gerald and his father assisted Diarmait Mac Murchada with his 1171 capture of Dublin, and he conqured County Limerick in 1197. His marriage to Eve de Bermingham in 1193 made him the new Lord of Offaly, and his son Maurice FitzGerald succeeded him on his death in 1204.
