Georgious Akhanteros was a colonel of the Altian Armed Forces and the de facto military dictator of Altis from 2026 to 2035. Akhanteros came to power in the 2026 coup d'etat against the democratic Altian government, and he let the AAF loose upon the population that did not agree with the new government, and 44,000 people were killed in government massacres. Akhanteros' actions led to the Altian Civil War, with the Freedom and Independence Army (FIA) being formed by AAF defectors and opposition members, and the West sided with the rebels. However, the NATO peacekeepers deployed to Altis cooperated with the AAF, and there were times when the NATO forces fought against the FIA. Task Force Aegis was permitted to establish temporary bases on Stratis, but by 2035 their mandate was expiring and they began to withdraw. Akhanteros allied with the CSAT alliance, gaining Iranian backing for his government, and he ambushed and destroyed all of the NATO bases in his country, leading to a NATO invasion. Akhanteros' government, assisted by the Iranian Griffin Regiment, was eventually defeated by the NATO and FIA forces, and the capital of Kavala would fall to NATO later that year. The dictatorship was overthrown and replaced by a democratic government, ending ten years of atrocities committed by Akhanteros and the AAF.
