Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia is a social democratic political party in the Republic of Georgia which was founded on 21 April 2012 by billionaire businessman Bidzina Ivanishvili. The party was a "party of power", lacking a clear ideology; it included pro-market and pro-Western liberals, radical nationalists with xenophobic rhetoric, public servants, intelligentsia, medium and large businessmen, technocrats, and former members of Eduard Shevardnadze's administration before the Rose Revolution of 2003. The party was held together by its support for Ivanishvili and its opposition to the Rose Revolution government, and, while it defined marriage as being between a man and a woman, it passed anti-discrimination laws to protect LGBT people. It combined the pre-existing free market model with a comprehensive center-left safety net, although the country's political left defined the party as ideologically amorphous. The party's parliamentary coalition was supported by the Conservative Party of Georgia, the Social Democrats for the Development of Georgia, and the Green Party of Georgia.
