Georgia White was a Confederate soldier who served in the 25th North Carolina Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War. Born and raised in Cold Mountain, North Carolina, he deserted his regiment during the Siege of Petersburg and joined fellow deserters Stobrod Thewes and Ethan Pangle in taking up music and posing as civilian musicians on their return home. The trio befriended Ada Monroe and Ruby Thewes after performing for them, but they were later accosted by the Confederate Home Guard for desertion; Thewes was wounded and Pangle killed, and White - who initially escaped - was captured in January 1865. White was tortured into giving up Monroe, Ruby, and Stobrod's location at an abandoned Cherokee camp in the mountains, resulting in a shootout between the Home Guard and the deserter William P. Inman, who had reunited wwith Monroe. After the Home Guardsmen and Inman were killed, peace was restored to Cold Mountain, and White later pursued a relationship with Ruby and married.
