Georges Cadoudal (1 January 1771-25 June 1804) was a leader of the Chouannerie royalist uprising against the First French Empire during the French Revolutionary Wars.
Biography[]
Georges Cadoudal was born in Brech, Brittany, France on 1 January 1771, and he was a convinced royalist and a devout Catholic. In 1793, he joined the royalist armies in the Vendee region, and he became a guerrilla leader, escaping from French prisons several times and going into exile in Great Britain for short periods. After 1800, he decided to become a conspirator instead of a guerrilla, and he plotted against Emperor Napoleon I with British aid. However, he was captured, and he was guillotined on 25 June 1804; in 1814, he was posthumously named a Marshal of France.
