
George Truitt (1756-8 October 1818) was the Federalist Governor of Delaware from 19 January 1808 to 15 January 1811, succeeding Nathaniel Mitchell and preceding Joseph Haslet.
Biography[]
George Truitt was born in Felton, Delaware in 1756, and he served in the State House from 1788 to 1792 and from 1794 to 1795, in the State Senate from 1803 to 1807, and as Governor from 1808 to 1811. He persuaded the federal government to fortify the state against a potential British invasion in exchange for raising a militia of 1,300 men. He died in 1818.
